Sewing Machine Table Plans

A sewing machine table is an important piece of furniture for a sewing room. Sewing machine table plans are readily available to be purchased. There are also instructions on how to build this furniture available on the internet. It is considered to be a fairly simple piece of furniture to build. They can be designed to have a well which allows the machine to be dropped down inside the table or without.

The sewing machine table can be constructed in a size to accommodate any space. The table offers a space for cutting and arranging the garment to be sewed. In planning the table the first thing to decide is the size that is desired. Purchase a 2-inch thick piece of plywood meeting these measurements. A 2 by 4 cut into 4 pieces can be used to create the legs for the table. These legs should be high enough to minimize unnecessary bending over the table.

The edges of the plywood and 2 by 4 pieces should be sanded until smooth. Attach the leg pieces to the table top with screws at the corners. The legs can be stained if desired. The top of the table should be covered with corkboard of  at least a ΒΌ inch thickness. The corkboard makes it possible to pin into the table top. It can be of a greater thickness to accommodate deeper pinning into it. The butcher paper should be rolled out to a size that allows the edges of it to be stapled to the underneath of the tabletop. Make the corkboard covering as smooth as possible and fully cover the top of the sewing machine table. This covering should be changed out at least once a year.

The above are instructions for a simple sewing machine table. There are also instructions on the internet for an Industrial Sewing Table as well as for a Drop-in Sewing Machine Table. The Industrial table should be built with pretreated lumber. Muslin and batting will also be needed. With each of these tables a staple gun and staples will be needed. The lumber can also be cut to the requested size at the hardware store. The drop-in sewing table will require the installation of a sewing machine lift attachment. This must be installed under the table to support a platform to which the sewing machine is attached for raising when ready to sew and lowering when not in use.

Instructions for these pieces of furniture are available for purchase or information is available which allows an individual to create their own design. The pneumatic lifts for the drop-ins are available for purchase online or in certain stores. Installation of these will also require a drill and bolts. Stain and paint are optional. Detailed instructions for completing the projects from scratch or converting another type of table to a sewing machine table are available on the internet. It appears that minimal building skills are all that is required to complete the project. The main statistic is to take accurate measurements of the space where the furniture will be used and of the height of the person using the sewing machine table.
